ClearSky Health plans to build two new rehab hospitals

ClearSky Health apparently doesn’t see many clouds on the horizon, as the company is moving forwards with plans to add to its network of rehabilitation hospitals.

Last week, ClearSky announced plans to build two new rehabilitation hospitals, with new facilities coming to Casa Grande, Arizona and Seneca, South Carolina.

Each hospital will have 36 beds and will care for patients recovering from strokes, brain injuries, spinal injuries, and a host of serious conditions. The company says each hospital is slated to treat more than 650 patients annually and the facilities will add about 100 new jobs in each market.

The two new hospitals illustrate ClearSky’s accelerated expansion over the past few years.

ClearSky is also in the midst of building two new rehabilitation facilities in Wisconsin, in Beloit and Eau Claire. ClearSky officials held a groundbreaking for the new hospital in Beloit just last week, the Beloit Daily News reports. ClearSky broke ground on the Eau Claire facility last fall.

When the new facilities in Arizona, South Carolina and Wisconsin are complete, ClearSky will be operating 19 rehab hospitals around the country.

Michael Warrington, CEO of ClearSky Health, sees room to add more facilities providing post-acute services for patients who no longer need hospital care, but aren’t ready to go home.

“These hospitals will complement existing acute care services in their communities, providing patients with access to specialized rehabilitation close to home. By receiving care near their families and support systems, patients can focus on maximizing their recoveries, regaining independence, and returning home to the people and activities they enjoy,” Warrington said in a statement.

The new hospitals in Arizona and South Carolina will be 45,000-square-foot facilities and will feature all private rooms. Each rehab hospital with have a physician, rehabilitation nurses, and physical, occupational and speech therapists, along with other healthcare staff.

Among the 15 rehab hospitals ClearSky has up and running, nearly half are based in Texas, with seven operating in the Lone State state. Clearsky also has two hospitals already operating in Wisconsin, with the two other facilities on the way. The company also has two hospitals in Florida, and rehab hospitals in Arizona, Kansas, New Mexico, and Ohio.

In the spring, ClearSky announced a “strategic recapitalization” designed to spur more growth and enable the investment in facilities in personnel. In that May announcement, ClearSky announced that Michael Warrington, who had been the company’s president, was elevated to the position of chief executive officer, effective May 1.

The number of inpatient rehabilitation beds has risen. Nationwide, the number of inpatient rehab beds rose by about 3.5 percent in 2024, according to a Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC) report to Congress released in March 2026.

America has an aging population, and with the last of the Baby Boom generations reaching retirement age by the end of the decade, operators of rehab hospitals may be seeing more opportunities for growth.

ClearSky has also been targeting states with significant population growth that are also appealing to retirees, such as Texas, Florida, and now Arizona.

With the announcement of new rehab hospitals coming to Arizona and South Carolina, Warrington pledged that the new facilities would provide top-notch care.

“Our teams will go above and beyond to provide patients and their families with exceptional care and support,” Warrington said in a statement. “Our goal is to provide excellent services that result in the best possible outcomes for our patients.”
