Mitchell Rosner, MD
Rosner has served in an interim role for seven months. He begins a three-year term leading UVA Health.
“It’s an incredible honor,” Rosner said in a statement. “I’ve devoted my career to UVA and UVA Health, so this is the opportunity of a lifetime to be able to serve my colleagues, my friends and the community that I have lived in so long.”
Craig Kent, who led UVA Health for five years, resigned in February after more than 100 faculty members signed a letter of no confidence in his leadership, WVIR-TV reported.
For his part, Rosner has won the support of many at UVA Health. More than two dozen leaders across the system wrote a letter saying they wanted Rosner to be named the permanent CEO.
“During his brief tenure as Interim EVP for Health Affairs, Dr. Rosner has gained and fostered the trust and respect of our faculty and lent much needed stability to a tumultuous period for UVA Health,” the leaders wrote.
UVA Interim President Paul Mahoney gave Rosner high marks and waived a national search for the CEO post after seeing the support of system leaders.
“In the short time I have been privileged to work with Mitch, I have been impressed with his judgment and inspirational leadership,” Mahoney said in a news release. “He is the right person to lead UVA’s health system forward. I look forward to our continued work together.”
