These hospitals received top honors from The Leapfrog Group

Thousands of hospitals are operating nationwide, but only a small number are being recognized among The Leapfrog Group’s top hospitals.

The Leapfrog Group, a nonprofit organization focused on patient safety, announced its top hospitals for 2023. The organization honored 132 hospitals in four categories: general hospitals, children’s hospitals, rural hospitals and teaching hospitals.

In addition, 27 ambulatory surgical centers were recognized as top performers.

Leah Binder, president and CEO of The Leapfrog Group, says hospitals and ambulatory surgical centers must reach high levels of patient safety and transparency to receive the honor.

“This recognition is one of the toughest awards in the industry to earn, so the hospitals and ASCs that receive this award have demonstrated an incredible commitment to patient safety and their community,” Binder said in a statement.

Founded by large employers and purchasers, The Leapfrog Group also releases hospital safety grades twice a year. With its fall 2023 grades, the group said hospitals made impressive progress in reducing infections, but they’re stumbling on the overall patient experience.
