Cleveland Clinic appoints an inaugural chief AI officer, and other leaders tackle new roles.
Sean D. Baptiste has been appointed as the first chief people officer of Nemours Children’s Health.
In the newly created role, Baptiste will be tasked with maintaining a culture of wellness at Nemours. Previously, he led the human resources team at RWJBarnabas Health in New Jersey, where he served as vice president of talent and innovation.
Before joining RWJBarnabas, he held HR roles at UMass Memorial Health Care in Worcester, Massachusetts.

"I look forward to continuing my work building healthy organizations with strong cultures of wellness for associates, patients and providers.”
R. Lawrence Moss, MD, president and CEO of Nemours Children's Health, said improving the wellness of staff is essential to providing better pediatric care.

Cleveland Clinic names first chief AI officer
Ben Shahshahani is tackling a new role at the Cleveland Clinic.
He has been named the inaugural chief artificial intelligence officer of the organization. He begins his new role today.
Shahshahani is a technology executive with more than 20 years of experience in AI and machine learning. He comes to Cleveland Clinic from SiriusXM and Pandora, where he served as senior vice president of science, machine learning and product analytics since 2021.
Previously, he spent several years at Verizon Media/Yahoo as vice president of advertising science, search & ad targeting engineering, and later as head of Yahoo Research. Before that, he worked at Google.
“I am looking forward to joining Cleveland Clinic and working collaboratively across teams to advance the understanding and use of artificial intelligence in healthcare in a way that benefits patients and caregivers,” Shahshahani said in a statement.
Shahshahani will report to Rohit Chandra, Cleveland Clinic’s chief digital officer.
Chandra said he sees potential for AI to improve patient care and reduce the burdens on staff.
“However, we need to be thoughtful about how we implement it,” Chandra said in a statement. “Ben has a track record of effectively and strategically applying new technologies to create beneficial change for organizations. We are excited to bring his expertise to Cleveland Clinic.”
Lee’s Summit Medical Center selects COO
Josh Gill has been named the new chief operating officer of Lee’s Summit Medical Center, part of HCA Midwest Health.
Gill began his new role on Aug. 1.
"I am honored to join the exceptional Lee's Summit Medical Center team of healthcare professionals, caregivers and physicians and look forward to working together as we continue the hospital's mission of delivering top-tier healthcare to the communities we serve," Gill said in a statement. "I'm passionate about safe, effective, high-quality, compassionate patient-centered care and am eager to promote Lee's Summit Medical Center's values as the community's trusted healthcare partner."
He joins the medical center after serving as vice president of operations at HCA Healthcare's StoneSprings Hospital Center in Dulles, Virginia. He led major construction projects and was also credited with contributing to growth in surgical services. He also served as the hospital’s ethics and compliance officer.
Gill started his career at HCA Healthcare at Reston Hospital Center in Reston, Virginia, as an administrative resident through HCA Healthcare's Executive Residency Program and then as assistant administrator.
Gabe Clements, CEO of Lee’s Summit Medical Center, praised Gill’s strategic vision and collaborative approach to leadership.
"Josh brings a wealth of experience and a proven track record of operational excellence to Lee's Summit Medical Center," Clements said in a statement.
Dayton Children’s Hospital names chair of pediatrics
Shehzad Saeed, MD, has been appointed vice president anc chair of the department of pediatrics for Dayton Children’s Hospital.
Saeed will also serve as chair of the department of pediatrics for the Wright State University Boonshoft School of Medicine. He began his new roles on July 29.
A pediatric gastroenterologist, Saeed has held key leadership roles at Dayton Children’s. He served as associate chief medical officer for medical specialties, physician chief of clinical excellence and physician lead for patient and family experience at the hospital.
He also held key roles at the Medical University of South Carolina, University of Alabama at Birmingham, Cincinnati Children’s and as professor of pediatrics at Wright State Boonshoft School of Medicine.
Saeed has written extensively about the care of children with inflammatory bowel disease, with more than 90 articles in peer-reviewed journals. He also served on the editorial board of several pediatric journals.
