Check out Chief Healthcare Executive’s 'Shorts'

Author(s)Ron Southwick

We’re offering more short videos from healthcare leaders. And we’d love to see some from you as well.

Here at Chief Healthcare Executive®, we’re pretty excited about our shorts.

And no, I’m not talking about a fashion statement. You won’t be seeing me wearing shorts on our site anytime soon, much to America’s relief. We took a poll and it didn’t test well.

But if you’re a frequent reader of Chief Healthcare Executive®, you’ve seen our new “Shorts” section presenting a host of short video clips. They’re just under our top stories under “Latest News.”

The videos are 30-60 seconds, and they feature excerpts of our conversations with hospital executives, CEOs, physicians, nurses and other key players in the healthcare industry.

I love our “Shorts” section because it highlights the many leaders who are talking with Chief Healthcare Executive®.

Here are a few examples:

Marcus Schabacker, MD, president and CEO of ECRI, discussing the misuse of chatbots in medicine, likening them to the loud uncle at the holiday table.

Jennifer Mensik Kennedy, president of the American Nurses Association, talks about immigration agents questioning home health nurses.

Dr. James E.K. Hildreth, president and CEO of Meharry Medical College, urging young scientists to pursue careers in medical research.

If you check out the shorts, you’ll also find links to stories and our conversations with healthcare leaders. They’re also a gateway to our bigger stories.

You’ll be seeing more shorts. Typically, we’ll be dropping at least one new one short every weekday.

While we’re loving the chance to share more insights and perspectives in our short videos, this doesn’t mean we’re dropping the analysis, deep dives, profiles, news stories and features you’ve come to expect from Chief Healthcare Executive®.

But we are also embracing the chance to bring you more ideas and perspectives, including the chance to get a little smarter even if you only have a few seconds between meetings.

Join the fun

We would love to get short videos from our audience of healthcare leaders. Send us your videos.

Offer some insights on tackling problems. Share a success story. Point out a problem that needs more attention.

In a trying time, we’ll welcome some videos that can offer illumination, and even some inspiration.

Share some ways you’re helping patients or addressing needs in your communities. It’d be great to see examples of how hospitals are helping their doctors, nurses and other staff have a better work environment.

We certainly wouldn’t mind some videos on the lighter side as well. Feel free to bring the funny. Talk about something that made you laugh. Reveal a mistake and what you learned from it.

One note: These videos must be vendor-neutral and non-promotional. Please don’t send a short on why your tool/device/gadget is the best on the market.

Shooting the videos

  • Hold the phone at arm’s length or use a phone mount to keep it at a consistent shot.
  • Choose a well-lit area, and preferably one that’s quiet.
  • Keep them under a minute. They’re called “Shorts” for a reason.
  • If you’re using an iPhone 13 or newer model, film the Short in Cinematic mode.
