The news outlet has produced the highly anticipated list for more than three decades. Chelsey Wen of U.S. News talks with us about this year’s honorees.

U.S. News & World Report has named its Best Hospitals for 2025-26.

The outlet released its top hospitals early Tuesday morning. The U.S. News rankings are highly anticipated, with many hospitals pointing to them for both bragging rights and advertising their status in their communities. This is the 36th year U.S. News has produced the "Best Hospitals" list.

This year, U.S. News examined more than 4,400 hospitals and selected 504 “Best Regional Hospitals.” A few more received the honor than last year, when 466 hospitals earned recognition from U.S. News as Best Regional Hospitals.

Chelsey Wen, a senior health data analyst at U.S. News & World Report, says the analysis is aimed at helping consumers find the best care, without having to face a long drive.

“This year, we're also trying to provide more useful data for patients within their communities on a more local scale,” Wen tells Chief Healthcare Executive®.

“We're providing more options for people within their communities, so they don't have to travel to get these hospital procedures done,” she adds. (See more of our conversation in this video. The story continues below.)

U.S. News also revised its methodology to place a greater focus on outcomes this year, she says.

A group of 20 hospitals earned spots in the U.S. News “Honor Roll.”

“They're the best of the best, and that means that they have to have exemplary performance across all the areas of care that we evaluate,” Wen says.U.S. News also recognized top hospitals in treating certain diseases and conditions, such as cancer, cardiology and diabetes, among others.

The best regional hospitals were named across 95 metropolitan areas in 49 states. To gain recognition as a top regional hospital, providers had to earn at least eight high-performing ratings among 22 procedures and conditions.

“I'm hoping that with our emphasis on the local care and the best regional hospitals …. I'm hoping that patients are finding it easier to find care that is easy for them to access,” Wen says.

She says the U.S. News “Best Hospitals” website is designed to allow consumers to easily compare different providers in their area.

“The way that our website is set up, I think, is really useful, because there is a search bar function where patients can look up a hospital. You can put in your zip code, your city or state, you can put in the procedure or condition that you're interested in. So for someone who's living in Cleveland, Ohio, they can look for hospitals that do hip replacements in their area, and then all of the hospitals will be listed for comparison,” she says.
