Vanderbilt Health names next CEO | MED MOVES

Dr. David C. Miller has been named the next president and CEO of Vanderbilt Health, and he will also serve as the next dean of Vanderbilt University School of Medicine.

Miller is currently CEO of Michigan Medicine and executive vice president for medical affairs at the University of Michigan. He will begin his new role at Vanderbilt on Jan. 1, 2027.

He succeeds Jeff Balser, who said in March that he was retiring Dec. 31. Balser has held both roles for 17 years.

“I am honored to be named the leader of one of the most highly regarded academic health care organizations in the country,” Miller said in a news release. “Vanderbilt is synonymous with exemplary patient care and world-leading innovation and medical education; I am humbled to be following in Dr. Balser’s footsteps.

Edie Carell Johnson, chair of the Vanderbilt Health Board of Directors, said Miller's leadership experience and commitment to organizational culture set him apart in a strong candidate pool.

Miller has spent most of his career at Michigan Medicine, which operates 12 hospitals and employs 5,800 clinicians. He has served as CEO for a year. Previously, he served as president of U-M Health and continues a clinical practice focused on prostate cancer.

Balser offered words of praise for Miller.

I am confident he will sustain our positive momentum while nurturing the distinctive and caring culture we all treasure.”

Lifepoint hospital announces new CEO

Michelle Beverly has been named the new chief executive officer of Havasu Regional Medical Center, an Arizona hospital that is part of Lifepoint Health.

Beverly began her new role on July 10. She previously served as the medical center’s chief operating officer.

"This hospital has a long-standing commitment to providing high-quality care to the Lake Havasu community, and I am grateful for the opportunity to work alongside our dedicated physicians, employees, volunteers, and board members,” Beverly said in a statement. “Together, we will continue building on our strong foundation while advancing our mission of making communities healthier."

Bob Barrett, western division president for Lifepoint Health, said Beverly stood out during a national search process for her leadership, operational expertise and collaborative approach.

“Michelle is a proven healthcare leader whose dedication to patients, employees, physicians, and the community has been evident since joining our organization," Barrett said in a statement.

Beverly has more than 20 years of healthcare leadership experience. She has held senior executive and operational roles at Banner Health and Abrazo Health.

A U.S. Air Force veteran, Beverly began her health care career as a surgical technologist.

University of Maryland Medical System names general counsel

Adil Daudi has been named senior vice president and general counsel of the University of Maryland Medical System.

Daudi has served as interim general counsel since July 2025. He succeeds Aaron Rabinowitz, who left the role last July to become president of University of Maryland Upper Chesapeake Health.

Daudi brings more than 20 years of health care legal experience. He joined the system’s legal team in 2014. As interim general counsel, he advised executive leadership and the system’s board.

“Over the past decade, I have had the privilege of working alongside extraordinarily talented colleagues who are deeply committed to serving the people of Maryland,” Daudi said in a statement. “I look forward to continuing to support our Board, leadership team and member organizations as we pursue our mission and build upon the strong foundation that has made UMMS a leader in healthcare.”

Mohan Suntha, president and CEO of the University of Maryland Medical System, said Daudi has shown strong legal expertise and strategic thinking, and expressed confidence he will help advance the system's priorities.

He previously served as associate general counsel for the University of Michigan Health System and worked in the FDA and health care practice group at Arnold & Porter in Washington.

St. David's hospital selects new COO

Brandon Cohen is taking on a new role as the chief operating officer of St. David's North Austin Medical Center.

He begins his new post this week. The medical center, part of St. David’s HealthCare, is a 465-bed acute care facility focusing on women’s health services.

Jeremy Barclay, the medical center’s chief executive officer, said Cohen’s experience will help strengthen services for the hospital.

"Brandon is an accomplished healthcare leader with a proven track record of driving operational excellence and supporting high-quality patient care," Barclay said in a statement. “His expertise in hospital operations will be invaluable as we continue to strengthen our services and meet the evolving healthcare needs of the North Austin community."

Cohen joins the system after serving as chief operating officer of Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, a 300-bed Level III trauma center in San Antonio. He led a $104 million expansion project adding 54 inpatient beds.

Before Methodist Hospital Stone Oak, Cohen held operations leadership roles at HCA HealthONE Swedish in Denver and HCA Florida Ocala Hospital.
