The Fourth Annual Conference will bring together stakeholders to enhance patient experience in their healthcare ecosystems.

Technology and a shift to value-based care have finally put patients at the forefront of their healthcare journey. And as the industry continues to put health in the hands of their patients, it is important to collaborate on best practices and next steps.

Senior-level healthcare professionals and stakeholders across the spectrum will gather in Boston, Massachusetts from May 11—13 for The Patient Experience Symposium 2020. Attendees will exchange game-changing ideas and actionable strategies to enhance patient experience in their healthcare ecosystems, Bill Doherty, conference director for the Patient Experience Symposium, told Inside Digital Health™ in an interview.

Unlike other conferences, this is going to include topics of interest to all those involved in the patient experience at hospitals, along with pharma and biotech companies who are looking to obtain the patient perspective on specific diseases and their treatments, Doherty said. The symposium will boast a new track on cutting-edge innovations and technologies that healthcare executives can leverage to improve the level of patient experience within their organization.

A popular feature of the symposium is Learning Labs—in-depth, hands-on, two-hour long sessions. “Learning Labs will allow our attendees to really dig deeper into specific topics of interest instead of just a shortened version. They tend to be very popular,” Doherty said.

Topics in this year’s Learning Labs include: “Strategies for Partnering with Patients and Families to Improve Care for All”; “Human-Centered Leadership: Cultivating an Optimal Workplace Culture”; “What Patients Want”; “Improving the Patient Experience Through Communications Using Health Literacy”; and “Changing the Game by Disrupting the Patient Experience.”

The conference features more than 50 visionary speakers, including Martin Markary, M.D., MPH, a gastrointestinal surgeon at Johns Hopkins and New York Times Bestselling Author; Joseph C. Kvedar, M.D., vice president of Connected Health, Partners Healthcare; Megan Coder, Pharm.D., MBA, executive director of Digital Therapeutics Alliance; and Ann Mond Johnson, MBA, CEO at American Telemedicine Association.

Janae Sharp, founder of the Sharp Index, is hosting a session titled, “We are Not Good at Death.” Over the course of 40 minutes, Sharp will share how the experience of losing her former husband and helping her children through the grief of losing their father has shaped her views about how each individual patient has the power to contribute, she said in an interview with Inside Digital Health.

Sharp, who has spoken at various health tech conferences, said that The Patient Experience Symposium was one of the first to include patients in planning and programming.

“Patients are the center,” she said. “One of the most important parts of improving patient care is taking the time to plan for success. The question I am bringing to this event is: What does the health of each physician mean for patient care?”

Attendees can earn CEUs, CME and PXE credits and expect to leave the symposium with the power to build an unforgettable patient experience.
