ChristianaCare’s new CEO takes the post: MED MOVES

Jenn Schwartz is now serving as the new president and CEO of ChristianaCare in Delaware.

She took the post last week. She succeeds longtime ChristianaCare CEO Dr. Janice Nevin, who held the role for 12 years. Nevin announced her plans to retire earlier this year.

Schwartz previously served as ChristianaCare’s executive vice president and chief strategy officer. She said she was deeply honored to take on the role of CEO in a message to the ChristianaCare community.

“At the heart of all we do will always be exceptional clinical care, delivered with compassion, empathy, and respect,” Schwartz said. “That's what love and excellence means to us, because our responsibility is not simply to treat you when you are sick. It is to be your partner in health, helping you stay well, navigate difficult moments, and live happier, healthier lives.”

ChristianaCare has been working to expand access to care. The system has partnered with Emerus to build three micro hospitals in the Philadelphia suburbs. The small hospitals have full-service emergency departments and a handful of inpatient beds.

In her message, Schwartz emphasized the need to help people get the care they need with fewer obstacles.

“You deserve exceptional care, but you also deserve healthcare that is easier to access and simpler to navigate, care that reaches you where you are, and care that sees you not simply as a patient, but as a person with a life, a family, worries, hopes, and questions that matter,” she said.

Schwartz previously served as vice president of legal affairs and general counsel for Lourdes Health System in New Jersey and chief executive director of the LHS Health Network Accountable Care Organization.

Kaiser Permanente names Colorado leader

After serving in an interim capacity, Cortney Eisses has been formally named Kaiser Permanente’s regional president in Colorado.

Eisses had served as the region’s interim president since February.

She joined Kaiser Permanente in 2003 and has held a host of leadership roles. She previously served as vice president of hospital and post-acute care.

Colorado is an increasingly important market for Kaiser Permanente, as the health system has expanded facilities and services in the state.

Craig Albanese, MD, president of integrated care and coverage at Kaiser Permanente, called Eisses “an accomplished leader.”

“Cortney’s extensive experience across care delivery and operations, combined with her unwavering commitment to our members, patients, and communities, makes her exceptionally well-positioned to lead Kaiser Permanente in Colorado,” Albanese said in a statement.

Memorial Healthcare System names CEO

He’s served in an interim capacity for two years, and Shane Strum has been named president and chief executive officer of Memorial Healthcare System in Florida.

The South Broward Hospital District Board of Commissioners voted last week to name Strum CEO of the system. The system operates six hospitals, including Joe DiMaggio Children's Hospital.

"I'm grateful for the trust this board and this community have placed in me," Strum said in a statement. "Memorial is stronger today than it's ever been, and I'm excited to keep building on that momentum.”

Since Strum began serving as interim CEO, the system has begun construction of a new $670 million tower at Memorial Regional Hospital and has opened two freestanding emergency rooms. The system is also partnering with Broward Health to expand access to primary care.

Strum also serves as president and CEO of Broward Health. He will continue to lead both organizations, which operate separately with independent boards.

HCA Midwest hospital announces CEO

John Corbeil has been named the chief executive officer of the Overland Park Regional Medical Center.

The hospital is part of HCA Midwest Health, a division of HCA Healthcare. The medical center is a 383-bed hospital serving Overland Park, a city of nearly 200,000 people just outside Kansas City.

Corbeil has spent 15 years in various leadership roles with HCA Healthcare. He previously served as CEO of HCA Houston Healthcare Kingwood. He succeeds Matt Sogard, who had led Overland Park since 2018.

"Overland Park Regional Medical Center has earned an outstanding reputation for delivering compassionate care and advancing healthcare across the Kansas City region," Corbeil said in a statement. "I am honored to join a team that is deeply committed to serving this incredible community and look forward to building on the hospital's foundation by investing in our people, strengthening our partnerships with physicians, and expanding access to care for the communities we serve."
